My books and writing instruction all are based on real-world experience. I have an academic background, but I value hands-on experience applying what the academics teach, not just their theories.

My work spans five decades of applied theory with organizations across sectors. I came up through academic training and spent most of my career inside operating environments—close enough to see what the evidence misses.
My writing life began long before my first novel. While studying engineering, I took more than twice the required English coursework, including scientific writing and the English novel. After graduation, I immersed myself in books on writing, subscribed to Writer’s Digest, built a personal library of writing guides, attended writers’ conferences in Roanoke and Raleigh, and published poetry and magazine articles before becoming a globally published nonfiction author. My project-management books have been published by McGraw Hill, AMACOM, and Perseus, and translated into Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Lithuanian, Russian, and other languages.
